The Owner and Outfitter, Mick Chapel was born and raised in New Mexico as a third generation native. Hunting and fishing has always been a part of his heritage. In 1980 Mick started New Mexico Pro Big Game Outfitters and over 30 years later he has truly established his reputation as the Outfitter that delivers incredible results. He hand-selects each of his trained and experienced guides, therefore they are well paid. Mick and his team have two state record bull elk under their belts, and both were taken on New Mexico’s public lands (there are millions of acres). If you are interested in an incredible New Mexico Fair Chase Big Game Hunt, you’ve come to the right place!
Our Team of trained guides has had 30 years of hunting the big Bull Elk in the Gila of Southwest New Mexico and Arizona. This area has been blessed with incredible genetics and great nutrition for producing majestic trophy bull elk. Our clients have enjoyed a very high success rate – second to none!
The terrain we hunt is from 6000′ to 9000′ in elevation, but it is not terribly steep. It is a good idea to be in the best possible physical condition for your elk hunt. There will be two hunters for one guide, but one to one service can be arranged for an additional fee. Rifle and archery hunts available.

New Mexico Pro Big Game Outfitters has an 80% success rate on Mountain Lion – every year! Cougar season is from October to April. The mature big tom is an elusive animal, requiring the use of well-trained dogs. We may use a variety of methods to travel, depending on the weather, from 4-wheel drives and snowmobiles to horseback and on foot. Fresh snow is always helpful for tracking but not a necessity. Our experienced Mountain Lion hunting guides have the knowledge and the trained hounds to make your dream of a big trophy Mt. Lion a reality!
The southwest part of New Mexico holds impressive quality Pronghorn Antelope and we enjoy near 100% success rate on these hunts. Trophy hunts or standard; Rifle or Muzzleloader – we aim to please!
We hunt Black Bear, and the color phases will range from jet black to brown phases and cinnamon. We use hounds and hunt from horseback most of the time, but occasionally stand hunting can be productive. Our hunting areas consistently produce huge bear, with skulls measuring more than 20″. We hold an 80% success rate on our Black Bear hunts.
It is tough to draw the New Mexico or Arizona Bighorn Sheep tag – and the Governor’s permit will cost an arm and maybe two legs! These are some rugged animals and they live in high elevations, up to 13000 feet, so be in great shape for you Bighorn Sheep hunt!
